This, this is Christ the King! One of our grandchildren asked us to name our favorite Christmas carol. It was a tough question, but ultimately I decided upon <em>What Child is This?<\/em>. I like the melody, the traditional English tune, Greensleeves. But I also like the lyrics which capture both Jesus\u2019 birth and His death\u2014<em>how<\/em> He came and <em>why<\/em> He came. He comes as a baby\u2014it is a time of joy, But He is our Lord and comes to be our Savior\u2014it is a time to give Him greatest honor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>What Child is this who, laid to rest,<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>On Mary\u2019s lap is sleeping?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Whom angels greet with anthems sweet,<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>While shepherds watch are keeping?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>This, this is Christ the King,<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Whom shepherds guard and angels sing;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Haste, haste to bring Him laud,<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Babe, the Son of Mary.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Why lies He in such mean estate,<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Where ox and ass are feeding?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Good Christians, fear, for sinners here<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The silent Word is pleading.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Nails, spear shall pierce Him through,<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The cross be borne for me, for you;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Hail, hail the Word made flesh,<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Babe, the Son of Mary.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>So bring Him incense, gold, and myrrh,<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Come peasant, king to own Him;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The King of kings salvation brings,<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Let loving hearts enthrone Him.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Raise, raise a song on high,<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The virgin sings her lullaby;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Joy, joy for Christ is born,<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Babe, the Son of Mary.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What is your favorite Christmas carol, and why?
