Homily, 6-13-22; Feast of St. Anthony:
In our gospel passage today we hear the well-known direction from Jesus to turn the other cheek. It is call to docility, a passive response to evil behavior. But it is not a direction to accept evil. It is a call to respond in a different way, to respond by our witness of loving Christian behavior. And thus we are told to offer our cloak as well as our tunic, to go in service for two miles instead of one, and not to turn our back on one in need who wants to borrow.
Today is St. Anthony
