Why does the second reading in the Missalette refer to the author as Saint Paul, and the gospel author as just Matthew or Luke? [This is an archived Q&A from my time as the deacon at Sacred Heart in Imlay City.]
I never even noticed this fact until this question brought it to my attention. The Missalette agrees with the text that is found in the Lectionary, the book that the lectors, priests, and deacons read from at Mass. And so, the first place I looked was in the Spanish Lectionary to see if the same discrepancy occurred there. But in the Spanish Lectionary, they refer to the gospel author as St. Matthew (actually San Mateo). I suspected that this might be a matter of translation from the original Latin text which is the basis for all the other translations.
